North American Pairs
There are three flights. Flight C is for non-Life Masters with less than 500 masterpoints; Flight B is for players with less than 2000 masterpoints; Flight A is open.
During June, July, and August, local clubs offer special games allowing you to qualify. These have sectional rating; the points are half red and half black.
The district is our unit (Long Island) and NYC. The district finals have a regional rating.
The Flight B district final is on October 26 at the Vanderbilt Bridge Club (2500 Marcus Avenue in Lake Success). The first session starts at 11 am and the second session is TBA. There is free parking in the back of the building. The telephone number is 516 328-9704.
The Flight A district final will be at the Cavendish Bridge Club (177 East 87 Street, Suite 302, telephone 212 876-2196) on November 9 at 11 and TBA. The Flight C final will be held on November 9 at the Manhattan Bridge Club (250 West 57 Street, Suite 1427, telephone 212 845-0155) at 11 and TBA.
The top three pairs in each flight of the District Final are then eligible to participate in the North American Pairs at the Spring National in Houston. The winner in each flight receives $700, and second place receives $300. You have to actually participate in the National event to receive this money -- it is meant to defray expenses. (If four pairs will qualify from our district, then the second place is also $700 and third place is $200.)
You do not need to be planning to attend the nationals to participate in the district final.
